I am so excited you are here for another Feature Friday! This week is definitely not one that you are going to want to miss!
Today, I am talking to Megan Rudden with Luminescent Mama!
Megan is near and dear to my heart because she has been my client friend (can we just make this a phrase going forward) for many years now. I have been fortunate to be a part of her entire birth story from the time she was preggo with her adorable little one, through the day of her birth, to her newborn session (which is still one of my favorites to date!). Not to mention lots of other sessions in between!
She has been such a huge support to me and my business, constantly spreading my name around, brainstorming with me about sessions and ways to serve you all, and just being an amazing cheerleader all around.
It makes me so so so happy to introduce her to you right now, I know you are going to love her just as much as I do!
Without further ado…
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself, your story, and your amazing message to Mommas!
Hello beautiful new friends! I’m Megan Rudden and I’m a mama with an incredibly BIG vision. While I have crowned myself with many ‘titles’ over the years, “Mom” is one of my favorites.
However, it wasn’t long ago that I was so incredibly lost and overwhelmed in the trenches of this whole newborn mama-hood gig that I didn’t know up from down, let alone how to get off the hamster wheel that kept me stuck in overwhelm. It left me feeling all the feels and honestly wanting to escape.
But here‘s the thing…I wasn’t prepared for this new phase of life. When a baby is born, a mother is also (re)born.
If we’re being honest here, adjusting to motherhood isn’t all rainbows and butterflies like the movies tend to portray. Rather, it can catch you off-guard and leave you feeling an array of emotions that you (more likely than not) weren’t prepared to feel. None of those emotions are wrong, in fact, they’re very common but they’re not your new norm. In other words, you’re not alone in feeling them.
It is reported that 1 in 5 moms struggle with maternal mental health the first year after giving birth.
2. Describe Luminescent Mama! When and how did you know this was the path that you wanted to go down?
While each of our postpartum journeys is different and felt at various degrees, we all share the commonality of desiring to be the best mamas to our little(s).
Luminescent Mama was born out of the dream to change not only how we navigate postpartum (4th trimester), but how we approach and prepare for the ocean of emotion that unknowingly (until now) blindside us. We strive to help moms ignite their inner guidance, putting themselves first, in order to pour into those around them.
During pregnancy, everyone was asking about our birth plan, the sex of the baby (we waited to find out at birth), the baby’s chosen name, and all the questions you can think of related to baby, so of course I thought I was prepared. We even went to the birthing class that taught us how to swaddle and change a diaper.
All the boxes of “things” to prepare for the baby, according to social standards and all the pregnancy books out there, had been checked.
Yet not a single person asked about what our (postpartum) plan was for when the baby arrived.
After my own 8mo silent struggle with postpartum depression and anxiety, I sought help.
Hindsight is 20/20 though and it left me wondering if others take the time to think through self-care, boundaries, resources, and so on, prior to birth, the same way they create a birth plan.
Much to my surprise, the main support I found around a postpartum plan was physical care (i.e. diets, exercise, peri bottles, sitz bath, etc.).
It was at that moment, I knew I had to help others prepare on a foundational level before the baby arrived.
3. What is your favorite thing about what you do?
Hearing the success stories and knowing my work is helping so many!
4. What is the biggest thing Mommas will walk away with with the Postpartum Blueprint?
A postpartum success plan to lessen the overwhelm and one that puts you first, mama. Postpartum Blueprint is a 27-page workbook that covers self-care, boundaries, communication, resources, and community, leaving you with a tangible action plan to lean on once the baby arrives.
5. I love that you talk about how important self care is for Mom, can you tell us a bit about everything you personally offer when it comes to self care?
Self-care is probably my favorite topic and my guiding principles for it are:
You must apply your oxygen mask first.
You are your number one priority. Period.
You’re so worthy of it.
You will be able to overflow (aka pour) into others above & beyond by taking care of yourself first.
Here are two of my favorite self-care brands, aside from Luminescent Mama:
Part of me learning to put on my oxygen mask first (aka take care of myself before others), was making my health a priority. In other words, no more eating the leftovers from my toddlers plate and consider it a meal. Can you relate?
So what is Organifi?
Organifi is a line of organic superfood blends that offer plant-based nutrition with high quality
ingredients and less than 3g of sugar. Umm yes please.
The best part? It’s toddler approved (according to my 2.5yo) and the bonus of that is he’s getting high quality superfoods in his diet without a fuss.
I’m a sucker for at-home premium skincare. Combining personal growth and a unique business model, I also help women pursue their own dreams of running an at-home based business, while also bringing premium skincare to the bathrooms of others.

6. What is one thing you would love to tell other Mommas about the postpartum journey that you wished you knew before you became a Mom?
Tap into and trust your internal mama guidance. It won’t steer you wrong. Whether it’s telling you to take time for yourself or something that feels off about how the baby is acting, relying on your true knowing can help keep you out of a state of confusion and overwhelm.
7. Anything you’d like to add or to talk about? ️
Investing in yourself isn’t selfish and is the one thing that will serve your current and future self. When looking at programs to invest in, look for those who have walked the path before you and whether they embody and live out their teachings.
And do not forget…you are so worthy of putting yourself first and live postpartum with intention™!
